We are looking for someone with experience creating smart, effective scenic designs for fast-paced productions. The ideal candidate is comfortable with quick load-ins and load-outs, designing creatively within a limited budget, and working in a production environment with young actors.
Responsibilities Include
Scenic design and concept development, including basic drawings, ground plan, and measurements as needed
Construction, painting, finishing, sourcing, and transportation/delivery of all scenic elements within the approved scenic budget
Collaboration with the director, production team, and Director of Production on design needs, venue requirements, logistics, and timeline
Designing/building scenery that is safe, stable, appropriate for young performers, and feasible for Theatre Row’s backstage and stage limitations
Coordination with the Director of Production to ensure scenery can be efficiently installed within the 5-hour load-in window and struck within the 4-hour load-out window
Supervising and working alongside a small crew during load-in/load-out, with the option to hire and manage an assistant if needed within the agreed scope/budget
Experience with educational theatre, modular/stylized scenic work, or fast-turnaround productions is a plus.
Venue specs include an approximate stage size of 47′ wide × 21′ deep and a grid height of 18′10″ from deck. There is no fly system, so all scenic elements must be grounded. Wing space is extremely limited, and a backdrop has already been rented.
