KOTA is currently accepting submissions of new plays and musicals!

At KOTA, we believe new work keeps theatre fresh, relevant, and reflective of young people today. We’re drawn to original stories, new voices, and meaningful ideas that give young performers the chance to help bring something new to life.

We are specifically seeking WORLD PREMIERES and works that have not previously received a full production in NYC. A small out-of-town workshop, developmental presentation, reading, or similar early-stage presentation is absolutely fine.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

• Feature a cast made up primarily of child and teen actors
• Estimated running time of 60–90 minutes
• Ready for a workshop, staged reading, or full-scale production in NYC
• Achievable with extremely simple scenery, costumes, and props
• World premiere, with no previous full-scale production

HOW TO SUBMIT

Interested writers and creative teams should complete KOTA’s form below.

Please be prepared to provide:

• Show title
• Writer(s) / creative team
• Contact information
• Number of cast members and approximate ages/age ranges
• Brief synopsis or description of the show
• Estimated running time
• For musicals, approximate number of musical numbers
• Development, reading, or workshop history, if applicable
• Script and/or other available materials
• Any additional information you feel would be helpful for KOTA to know

KOTA’s Commitment to New Work

KOTA is proud to have produced the World Premieres of Dance Divas Nutcracker (Theatre Row) and Sound Mind (Urban Stages), along with numerous U.S. and NYC Premieres. We are excited to continue creating opportunities for new voices, original stories, and young performers to bring new work to life!

Producing new work in NYC takes significant investment and often does not have the built-in audience of a familiar title. Donor and sponsor support helps KOTA cover development, rehearsal space, creative teams, production costs, marketing, and scholarships.

Support can range from underwriting a specific need to becoming a lead sponsor of a world premiere.

Kids of the Arts (KOTA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
