About the Show
A Little Princess is a brand new musical adaptation by British writing team Carl Miller and Marc Folan based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The musical made its debut last year at Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Other Palace in London, and now makes its United States Premiere at The Pershing Square Signature Center in New York City.
A Little Princess, a 1905 novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, began as a short story, but due to its popularity, Burnett expanded the story into a novel. A Little Princess is regarded as one of the best children’s novels of all time. It focuses on themes of perseverance, friendship, and strength of character. The novel’s issues are still relatable today to both children and adults.
Captain Crewe and his daughter, Sarah, have arrived in London after living abroad in India. Captain Crewe is quite wealthy and believes Miss Minchin’s Seminary for Young Ladies in London will be the best route for Sarah. Years goes by, until one day the tragic news of Captain Crewe's death turns Sarah's world upside-down. Sarah has been left with nothing. Miss Minchin strips Sarah of all her belongings, and sends her to live in the attic and begin working as a servant to pay off her debts. Sarah begins to discovers things she never knew about the world, and that a true princesses light shines from the inside.
